Got Salt

I've been using IO but am thinking about a switch to Reef Crystals. Where is the cheapest place in town to get a bucket? I read where Petco will price match the online? Does anyone know if the one on Manchester (Ballwin area) will do that?

Thanks,

FAz

They should all do it but I think a better questions is " Do they carry Reef Crystals?".

I've heard that PetsMart matches prices but haven't heard that Petco does. Are you sure of that?

from my understanding petsmart will match the price (but some managers make you include shipping in the price they match)

TWP has it. I would just order from here at $31 and if you get 4 buckets it will only be $12 shipping, as they go by price not weight.
http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produc...56&pcatid=4856

If you order 4, I will take 2 and split shipping with you.

The petsmart on manchester (next to sports authority) only 5 miles matches online prices and they've NEVER included the shipping in. The manager who is a guy, always tells me that he'd rather have the business than giving it to their online business...I've never been successful with petco matching prices.

OK. I might also try and hit the hospital, police station and a few other municipal buildings before I get to the library.

Are you on the hippie lettuce and what are you talking about??

You are a nut bag and I doubt if the members of SLASH would care if you mention a meeting of a different club's meeting place. I know I do not. Now a post of the event might might be different subject??
But to speak in riddles like you are Maxwell Smart might annoy them as well.

I honestly thought you were baked out of your mind before your PM and I expected a call through my shoe stating KAOS was about to take over the world and it would happen at the library??

NO!

I really want to know if you are going to the library!

Is that too much to ask? Then to resort to name calling? Then dis'ing my hero Max? Next thing you know you will be mocking Angus MacGyver. Go meet someone else at the library and leave me and my vicodin alone.

I just laughed for 5 straight minutes and I am still laughing as I type. Your avatar is great! Plus the reference to Macgyver is hysterical! You are a nut!

ram-that is too much and too funny!

You continue to harass me?

Is it because I am Hungarian?

Anyway.. to build on that equation

The reason I want to change salt is to try to bring my chemicals into ballance with less additives.
So I/O ~ RC = better water quality

BUT, and it is a big but.

I spent the week adding ALK, MG and Cal to the system per the reef calculator.

I have seen little if any change in the readings so.

Using a salifert CA test (4 mos old)
A brand new Seachem MG test kit
A brand new Seachem KH test kit

on 12-28-2007
KH = 9
PH = 8.02
Sal - 1.024
Mag = 1075 (1200)
Cal = 375

Now, after dripping 80% of the recommended doses of Epson Salt, Seachem Reef Builder, headcheese, and Seachem Reef Calcium I have the following:

on 01-05-2008
KH = 7.5
PH = 7.83
Sal = 1.025
Mag. = 1225 (1350)
Cal = 375

This brings me to question the test kits. I ran the test against the baseline cal solution for Magnesium and found that it is off by about 125 at 1100 so I adjusted the above (+125)

Not to hijack my own thread but the Alk and CAlcium have me puzzled. I have (2) Alk test kits and both test the same. I think I need to get to a lfs and have them verify.

The reason for the changes is that my LPS seem to have issues converting calcuim. The Sun polyps have a bit of skin detatching from the skeleton and the torch has the same at night.

ANy thoughts from the water guru's?

your Salifert could be bad. About 4 months or so ago they had sent out a bunch of bad test kits and did not rectify their problem. I do know there were some really ticked off people and they no longer have a forum on RC any more. I do not know if this had something to do with the bad kits--but????

Seachem makes a pretty good Ca teat that I have also used. Reef Status plus..something or other.

I would check with another reefer or LFS to verify that it might be bad and I would not test against another Salifert.

I really like Reef Crystals for the reason you want to switch.

Did you ever find that phone booth by the courthouse?

Test?? Water guru's?? I just prefer to use my table salt, it's easyer, cheaper and I don't have to "test" it. I'll be @ the welfare offices tonight, 3rd chair from the left in the middle towards the back. Got it?? Right, I'll see you there ok

P.S., dont forget to bring the Mangroves and that book you checked out

RC has free t-shirts in them on my last order too!

The salifert issue was with the kH test kits.

Even with adding ca and alk supplements, depending on corraline growth and how many lps and sps you have, you can easily use 2.8 dKh and 20 ppm of calcium PER DAY! As the levels decrease, calcification will slow down or you would have 0 dKh per day after 3 days. I'm not sure how much supplements you were adding over that week but you might be surprised at what your tank can consume. Your original numbers on 12/28 come in real close to what IO mixes at 1.026.

talking about all this salt, has there been a test result posted lately between all the brands, as far as CA, ALK, PH, MG...etc? I too am thinking about switching from IO to something else...

I prefer Oceanic salt myself. However when short on the dough and due to IO selling the 200 gallon box mix, I go with it and boost up the calcium.
