quarantine

hey folks,

i'm not sure if i buy into this whole quaratine thing when adding new live stock; whether it be coral or fish. ive been running fish/reef now since july of '06 and everything that is in my tank right now i have only let temp adjust. this includes my fish, mushrooms, zoas, leathers, candy's, hammer, monti plates, and multiple sps. i'm wondering how many people actually do it. maybe this should be posted at the poll......im just curious

thanks

You're telling me that after these creatures have been stuck in a box, shipped around the world, changed hands half a dozen times, you don't have the patience to properly acclimate your fish.

mmmm....nope. Only temp. if you move from North Dakota to LA, are you going to stay in your new house for a couple of weeks until you get used to the different air?

Terestial animals are different. We are very adaptable to change.

Conditions on the reef are extremely stable. There are many important factor to look at. Temperture acclimation is very important, but pH is just as important. Swings in pH can cause acidosis, which is when the blood becomes acidic. When you acclimate properly the blood is allowed to buffer itself.

There are many other factors some of which we know very little about.
