phos ban - WOW

I have been fighting a annoying hair algae problem over the past few mos...

Tried some natural ways...

50+ astreas...

Sea hares..

Herm crabs...

Seems they are better at maintenance, than actual algae removal..

Not to mention the dead snail ammonia contribution to the problem..

Pulled out rocks scrubbed them off... marginal effect... stuff just grew back.

Doubled my light on my fuge. seemed to help... algae was in stasis...

Added phos ban yesterday....WOW.... algae dying off in chunks...

Amazing how fast this stuff works...

I got a bag from reefchili, for a great price btw.

My little problem started by letting my RO filters get nasty. Hint .. dont do this

I'll give you guys an update in a few days...

Once this crap starts ... it is VERY hard to get out of the tank.

Of course my tabbitfish died after a tumor... The sea hares that I have in now probably work the best.. but how much can these little guys eat

I have a small amount of algae here and there in my tank. I just added a phosban reactor and it seems to be helping.

My problem comes from overfeeding. I recently added a powder blue and he wasnt eating so I was overfeeding the tank to entice him to eat.

Be carrfull with that stuff. Keep a close on on things. You should know by now that good things DON'T happen fast in a reef. Bad things yes, not good things.

One of the main things to watch is your Alkalinity (Dkh), it can drop pretty quickly.

I put about 1.5 cups dry measure in a mesh bag and stuck it in my filter sock.

So it makes alk drop? didnt know that.

I'll keep an eye out...this morning all the corals looked really good.

From what I read about the phos ban.. it starts to work rather fast .. then slows down by itself once it absorbs the phosphate...

A lot of my corals had paled a bit because of the nitrate and phosphate issues... lets see if they get happy again.
