Ppl's experiences with engineer gobies?
Hi All,
I'm researching keeping engineer gobies. I am planning on keeping a pair in my 48 gallon - you can see the tanks inhabitants in my signature. The PJ's are actually up for sale and won't be in the tank when the engineer's are introduced but I will include them anyway. I am aware of the digging habits of engineer gobies so am well prepared in this regard. I am looking for info on how they get along with other fish and any bad experiences people have had with them. I have read that they are peaceful towards other fish though may pose a threat to small fish such as clown gobies, but having never seen or kept an engineer goby myself I want to make sure they are a good choice for my tank. I have also created a thread about this in the Seahorse forum, you can read it here: Engineer gobies and seahorses?

I have a pair of them, both about 8" long. They dig, that is true. I wish mine would eat my clown goby but so far seem to be good fish.

I cant tell you on the sea horses, however I have a 10" Engineer Goby in my 120 Reef and he is a model citizen other than the occasional cleaning or creation of a borrow. He has an intricate network of holes under all of the rock. I have a mix of fine and coarse sand. There are smaller fish in the tank (i.e. juv. clowns and some chromis) and he doesn't bother them at all. They do eat like pigs and mine eats anything I put in front of it and will even steal big pieces of food from my anenome and tangs. They have alot of character, but you will rarely see the whole fish. go for it.

I have a pair in my sump with a kole tang some chromis and a couple of clowns. They are all awaiting QT or introduction to the display. They haven't caused any problems at all. I like them, but I am a little concerned about how large they get (they are about 8 or 9 Inches now). I have been told that they can reach 18". Good luck.
