I don't buy the contimination from the adhesive below(above) the foam liner. Water doesn't penetrate the foam and the foam seals around the neck of the bottle, thus allowing no water to seap into the adhesive area. If it did the bottle would be leaking water thru the thread of the cap and into their box.

I got a second test back from AWT. My Silica's dropped from 2.6 to .5 in three weeks. Following the first test results, I changed out my carbon pre filter and resin tank on my RO system. Seems to have help lower that value quite a bit.

Or, AWT fixed a process problem on their end, which is more likely -- particulary if you haven't done a huge waterchange following the replacement of your filter carts.
I'm interested in their service, but won't be sending anything their way until the odd results are explained.

Nice to see they are paying attention to our concerns...

I did the same thing and also started running my phosphate reactor and carbon reactor 24/7 again. I plan to send my test off monday. |

I am confused about the Boron
Mine came in at 1.9 mg/L according to them that is low. How is that level if they are measuring it in the other unit mentioned by Boomer? I actually bought some Boron additive but I am glad I have not added any yet. thkx einsteins |

Good news, excellent -- I'll still wait to hear more from AWT though

my boron was low too, what's strange is that I use two-part to adjust Ca/alk, so I would think that would replace boron.
I am not very concerned with it though, since all my livestock is doing great...

FYI: The lab analysis of various salt mixes that AWT is working on will begin January 2nd. I will post the results on RC when I have them. Happy New Year!

How is that level if they are measuring it in the other unit mentioned by Boomer? You mean meq/ l. Well, it would be even much less in that unit. Boron gets used up pretty quick if it is not sup'd Doc two-part to adjust Ca/alk Who's two-part ? I doubt there is much in there. Some good reads on Boron in seawater and testing it. FYI, Jeremy Redmond is the owner of AWT and at least 2 other compagny and one sell AB Reef Salt.
I just hope there is no interference and I would like to know how they do the testing? Liquid phase chromatograph?

I don't think so Ice. Their website says select ISE probes, spectrophometer. and auto-titrators
Yah, a friend of mine found out that AWT is really Aquamedic USA, which is also AB salt. This has been brought up already a few times.

No offense, but the holy grail hasn't turned up This is a very common practice, with TONS of companies in this hobby (and others) being owned up the chain. Just FYI as well, they're not hiding the information or pretending it's a secret (AWT/Aquamedic tie). I received some Aquamedic parts recently, and it had AWT advertisements in it, with something to the wording of "An Aquamedic company" or "An Aquamedic division" (which is a lot further than most companies do). I personally could care less as long as their large salt testing results are unbiased.

Well at least they don't test their salt in that study, that would be biased.

I disagree. There is no reason to punish them because they're willing to do this study for the community for free. There isn't any reason I can think of for them not to test their own salt in the study with the same process as everything else. I do think it's appropriate to put a footnote in the results however that state it's a subsidiary or something like that.

I was thinking it would help maintain Boron levels: "Another series of products that should contain boron are the two-part calcium and alkalinity supplements that claim to leave only a natural seawater ionic residue after removal of calcium carbonate. That is, they contain all ions, including boron, in natural seawater ratios with the exception of calcium, carbonate, and bicarbonate (as is the case in B-ionic according to Bob Stark of ESV). Assuming that such supplements are properly formulated, then they should not cause an increase in boron above natural levels, though they may help “maintain” it if it is otherwise being depleted (just as a water change would). "
