AQUASCAPING!

There is about 85-90# of live rock in the whole system, but only about 70-75# in the display. I have some smaller pieces that I kept in the sump. I don't want them to clutter the display.

As a whole, I'm satisfied with what we did today. It's a little too rock-wall like for my taste, but it's sturdy and has tons of caves and shelves. There's also a little ledge on the top that the cleaner shrimp has already set up as his cleaning station.

It was kind of hard to 'scape around the overflow, so we used it as support for the high-point of the rock.

Most of the corals are not staying where they are right now. I guess we'll be coral-scaping in the next few days. That shouldn't take too long, as there is a GRAND TOTAL of 8 corals!

I think the rockwork looks nice. The method I use is to do whatever I can to make it look natural and not man-made. Nature never has a straight line, so I do my best to avoid creating any.

Did you place the rockwork or your wife? I've noticed that more often than not, women are better at aqua-scaping than men.

Hmm I was wondering why my wife always says " I liked the other rockscape better." I'm going to have to turn her loose on the next one.

Cprowler - thanks! We have been VERY busy, but I'm glad we can now sit back and enjoy the beauty!

zach - Thanks!

Melev - You're absolutely right; I'm about function, she's about form (and I know you agree!). She sees things from a different angle. We both scaped the rock, but she was the director and I was the laborer!

I was passing by tank and I noticed this... I've stressed everything out lately, but nothing seems to be that upset, except for this feather duster. He's been open, but now he's fully retracted, out of the sand, and looking for a new place.

Sorry for the blurry shot, it's the best I could do.

Should I worry about this or re-bury him? Sometimes it's best to let them do what they want....

Good job on the new tank. Looks awsome. So, not sure if this is still too early to bring this up but are you getting a tang afterall/if so, what tang are you looking to get???

I think you mean that you want to have the rock on hand first, then worry about the water?

http://www.marcorocks.com/

They are former LR that has dried out. Not agrocreate or base rock. When you put them in water, they will still go through a small cycle. These are great for those that want to spread out the huge cost of buying 'LR'. Best (or worst) part about it is, no hikers. (No worms, shrimp, aptasia, majaro, etc.) Really bad part is no coralline either.

(I'm partial to this as I am battling Eucnid worms at the moment.)

I am getting a tang, but I haven't mentioned it because it quickly turns threads for the worse.

I'm using both the K3 and K4. I really like them. There is good flow throughout the whole tank, but not any particular area that has too much. I purposefully left most of the rock off of the back wall so flow could get back there.

I don't keep SPS - my LPS and softies get mad when they get too much flow. The K3 and K4 in this tank is perfect for me.

Maybe this isn't the most interesting thing, but it's something I've never seen before - the feather duster moved out of his old house.

Great pictures. It will form a new tube with mucous and the neighboring sand. For now, try to avoid adding more livestock that might harm it.

Boy. It will be nice to get set up like that. I think eventually I will get rid of the tidepool and do what you did. That was pretty easy looking. Unfortunately I feel I cannot go very far with my tank since the townhouse we live in is temporary accommodations. You see, I retired from the Navy and I sold my home and moved to Maryland. The wife isn't to crazy about the area and I have a feeling I will need to move AGAIN to where ever....hence, a hold on major tank development. sucks

NICE ! Great job on the tank and the thread.

Looking at the placement of the overflow I was curious if you can put the k3 on the back wall between the side glass and the overflow and have it slightly more "hidden " than having it on the side like it is now?

I have two k4s in my 75 and that is the only complaint I have about them is that they are kind of hard to hide. That space looks like the perfect little hiding spot for a powerhead. Just thinking out loud...or online in this case.

fun thread, and super good looking tank. Can you somehow make a copy of your wife's brain and implant in mine?
