Muligan, Did you build this tank your self. If so can you explain the process. I have access to as much glass as I want or need. I don't want to wake up to 300 gallons of water on the floor.

I had help from a buddie who has lots of experience with tank building.
But any questions you have I will answer the best I can. |

Here are a few updated photos. And some anthias I picked up. And my new achillies tang. I love this fish waited over a year to find a nice one this guy is about 8 inches. |

very nice unique set up, well done! love that achilles, looks fat and happy don't think I've seen one quite that big
how do you get access to the display for cleaning and reaching the bottom? doesn't look like enough room in the hood with the light fixtures in there.

I have four 250watt pendants hanging inside the hood and the tank is
32 inches wide plus the access doors are 20x20 each so that gives me two openings of roughly 40"x20" on each long side. so I have tons of room even with the lights for working in the tank. Plus I have each light setup with a short cord and a water proof plug so if need be I can remove each light very effortlessly. But I have not needed to as of yet. Paul |

Wow. The tank is beautiful inside and out. I love how it integrates with the room. How did you get the edges of the portholes so perfect? Is it some kind of flexible trim under the sheetrock?
What kind of trim is around the tank? Normally I would be afraid to have a glass tank that big but the trim would make me feel safer. Everything is done perfectly. I love the stand and hood, the external overflow, the lack of equipment in the display, the portholes.... I am the pickiest person too. The only negative is the location of the tank. This thing should be in the main living area of the house viewable from the street for all to enjoy ; )

The port holes were done with flexible bullnose drywall corners they are plastic goes on before mudding Just like normal corner bead.
The main tank has 3/4 inch solid oak trim work. there is four diferent pieces used to get the look I wanted. Plus yes helps give the tank more seam strength. Since we have finished the basement we live in it pretty much all our free time never upstairs hardly anymore. as for seeing it from the street. I have one basement window that faces the street, you can see the tank, but its the blue glow that gets people talking...lol |

The tank looks great. I love the stone and woodwork....
You are a VERY brave man to have that pool table that close to the tank. |

The pool table is a good 7 feet away from the tank. plus we break the balls the other direction. Did worry me at first but a ball would never reach the tank. Plus it slows people down from crazie shots.

Muligan, fantastic work! Love the stone and love the oak. Your basement looks like a high class cigar lounge.
Beautiful detail. I am also curious about the building of the tank- what type and placement of bracing- if any- at that height, I can only assume there is bracing...going over the shots, it looks like there is euro bracing and some corner bracing? what width did you make your bracing? How did you grind out your overflow plate and what are the dimensions of the overflow box? what thickness of glass..3/4in. I assume. Are the end panes sitting ON the bottom pane (as opposed to glued to the edge of the bottom pane), with the long sides glued to the edges of the bottom and end panes? thanks and again, really fine work its great to see more and more amazing Canadian reefs

The notch for the overflow is cut using a water jet saw. the overflow dimensions are 6"x24"x14" All the glass is 3/4" and the glass is glued to the edge of the bottom pane. Thanks everyone for the kind coments. Paul |
