Have you built this? I am just wondering how it works.

I haven't built it, but it looks like a sound design. I am using a corallife reactor. The only thing I would consider changing for the DJ88 is I would use a cylinder instead of a square design. Either should work fine though. All you want in a reactor is a place where you can lower the PH to break down the calcium media without messing with the PH of the main tank too much.

Here's a picture of my first acrylic project. 6" dia, 20" high MAG3 up flow with CO2 recir. Clr tubing is CO2, red is feed, Blue return to tank. No plans just ideas from factory units and other DIYs.
Double couplers abv union as from cutting down the height a few times (started at 30"). When I first started with it it taller, had cut grooves in the flanges for the o-ring and was getting weeping (found really hard to cut a uniform depth just using router). Just having the flanges smooth, no problem with the o-ring sealing. Was going to try and key-hole the lid but as since screws are really no big deal, specially with a screw bit in a drill, and volume is large so media lasts a long time, never bothered. Using Uniseals without leaks. |
