Well its time to build the Sump. Problem is I havent decided how I want to do it yet.
Im not sure if I want the pump in the closet behind the tank or under the tank. If it goes in the closet I will be able to have a bigger sump and it may quiet down some of the noise. Any suggestions?

Ok I just plugged the pump in and closed the closet door and the great news is I can not hear the pump at all in there even with the pump dry.
This may be the deciding factor.

If the pump goes into the closet the sump would look something like this
(View from top) The cutout on the right side is because of the ball valve I would have to install, This does mean big holes in the wall

I know this sounds crazy, but what about putting the ballvalve inside the sump? The only metal would be the screw that holds the handle in place, I believe. Or just screw in a plug where the strainer goes to stop water from exiting? I would try to keep the hole in the wall just large enough for the PVC to pass through it, both out and back in.

If you don't want the hole I really wouldn't worry about the noise. I think once it is wet and in the stand you won't hear it.

I also already have 5 holes in that wall so 2 more isnt going to hurt since If I ever move they will all have to be patched.

I dont think this Ball valve has a metal scew. The handle is plastic and clamps on. But at this point it may just be easier to skip the ball valve, install install a union and just use a plug when I need to remove the pump.

When they move over to the new tank, they'll have so much more room to grow. It'll be amazing.

Your old setup's color is really nice, what kind of bulb are you using? It's uber blue, are they radium with actinics?
