help, my acrylic sump sprung a leak, can you use weldbond....?

Help my acrylic sump has a leak in the seams. I have drained it. I know that you can use weldon 16 to caulk the joints, but there is none available around here. Can use use a product called weldbond to caulk the joints? is it safe for the inhabitants of the aquarium?

Thanx

You can go to an autoparts store and get JBweld or Aquaweld or something similar. It's a two part putty for patching just about anything. Just wipe the acrylic dry, rough sand it and apply the putty. It'll dry quick and be ready for water in half and hour or less. I used it on my skimmer and had no problems with it for 2 years now.

I dont think I would want to chance it on a seem. Try to find some weldon. How big is the sump?? Might be worth replacing.

yes, sumps are not that expensive. If it is leaking it might be worth replacing unless it's an emergency. Keep in mind you are patching an old joint. Some adhesives work well when the acrylic is new but not when the mating surfaces soiled.

You can buy acrylic and glue at Lowe's. Glue a strip on the outside covering the original seem then one from the outher side overlaping that piece

I would go ahead and add some strips around the outside corners while you have it all apart, should prevent it from happening again,Ive been down that road allready.

I have used super glue gel before in a similar situation with success. Not sure how bad your leak is though. The gel is not as good as Weldon 16 but if you do not have it?
