tiny red bugs... not red fw (move too fast), smaller then pods ???
been noticing these tiny red bug like creatures moving around on a pvc overflow in the fuge...
they are not 'red bug' flatworms etc and they move way too fast to be those anyway. they are tiny - much more so then any pods and probably wouldnt be visible enough on a picture. lots of them and they move around very fast - appear to be red or brown... there is also some type of 'spider web' on this overflow dont know if these critters were respons or ??? but it definitely looks like a spiderweb type thing any ideas??? regards |

Oh, not good. Go to the sps forum and ask about red bug. I truly hope it isn't. It's not an easy pest to get rid of.

may wanna run a search on the sps eating red bug to make sure it's not those. Can you get a picture of them?
Are they actually "red" and not just a "brownish" color?

The "spider web" is probably from vermatid gastropods, which are harmless filter feeders. Beneficial, but annoying at the same time.

they are not red bug flatworms i have had those not these http://www.melevsreef.com/id/redbug_800.jpg nor these http://www.ronshimek.com/Animal%20Gr...Red%20Planaria so small that they cannot be made out individually again they move fast - not lightning speed or anything but fast and highly mobile unlike fw. havent added anything to this system in months and never noticed these before either. Papagimp could try to take a pic but my photographic equipment/skills are lacking - especially for something so small - they are only noticeable as small red dots moving around - individually they cannot be 'distinguished' as to features etc - just small red dot. re red bug not either of the critters in above pic nor are they anything that i have come across in my research for marine pests/images etc. can try to get a pic the other peculiar thing is the 'spider web' netting around the overflow. regards |

think this photo shows what i am talking about...
again the lil moving red things are barely visible but if one sees any tiny red dots that would be them... the 'netting' weblike stuff is seen on the right side of the photo - visible if one looks closely enough EDIT: weird this image is not saved sideways like this on photobucket but its coming up like this on the forum - oh well actually probably better to show what i am talking about this way anyway... this image is not showing the tiny critters - most of the big red blotches and even the smaller ones is coralline... almost need a magnifying glass on this image to see the small critters... the tiny-est dots barely visible would be the critters i am referring to going to try and resize this photo - not to savy w/ all this internet photostuff (sorry for the frightening shots of the aiptasia - this is the fuge anyway and hoping to keep them in there - for 'filtering' and perhaps hopefully to keep the copperband i am going to get - kept alive and fed well w/ continuous supply!) I have little red things in my tank, too. I thought they were redbugs at first, but they don't look like a redbug. I have a rock covered with purple coralline and it's the only rock I've ever seen them on.

have seen it before on the LR where the vermatids usually grow dont see any growing on this overflow pvc pipe though hence wondering what/where this netting weblike structure came from. and if in some way they may be associated w/ these tiny red mites. |

I have them too. they aren't the dreaded red bugs. I've been told they are a harmless copepod species.

Keep in mind that there are two different things people are mentioning here. Sk8r was talking about "red bugs" that infest SPS colonies and kill them, not flat worms, which are altogether different.

these things are not red bugs and i dont have any sps corals either (dont know if they would need sps to survive) - nor has anything been added to tank in 4-6 mos http://www.peteducation.com/article....articleid=3354 dont think they are tigger pods either http://images.google.com/imgres?imgu...%3D1%26hl%3Den they probably are some type of pod. w/ this assumption - must be a 'good' thing... never noticed pods like this before in this system - and if thats the case more food for mandarin! regards |
