thought: what do you think a ballast looks like under the bomb detector? do you think it would make the police look twice?
is it a big price break? anything especially good there? |

The voltage is different there (220v) so anything that requires a plug won't work here in the US unless you are getting any non electrical stuff.

you always can get a up/down transformer here in the US for 15-25 at fry's

I would jump on board if you can bring back live goods. I remember seeing how inexpensive the fishes were. $50 for yellow longnose butterfly...THAT IS $50 HKD = $6.50 USD. You hand pick it with a strainer. I remember those days.

my recommendation is never to buy electrical equipments that are of different voltage.
just pay the higher price and buy the one that's of the correct voltage. |

most electronic goods ie cameras , phones supports dual voltages. Fish pumps, ballasts, heaters are not dual voltages unless they offer it. A tranformer converter may work but they might not support the higher amps. They are usually made for razors, clocks, etc.
I wish I could bring back livestock as well but you will have to deal with customs on the way back. Let us know what you find because I might be there in June |

"Fish pumps, ballasts, heaters are not dual voltages unless they offer it."
To clarify, you can buy either US or European/Japanese voltage products (220 volts versus 110 )

they are cheap...BUT....the warranty will not work in the US...you'll need to send back to HK for any warranty stuff......went down that path 5 years ago......

I wouldn't get anything that's not UL certified... might burn your house down....
cheap is good, but most of the stuff here is expensive because they've passed certain tests and requirements making them reliable |

what did you have that needed warranty?? The lens does have contact points but can it go bad?? What if I paid the fee if I ever sent it in to cannon?? How much do you think they go for???

I bought a whole camera for someone....they dropped it and needed warranty work...
Tell me exact lens you want and I'll PM you when I am in HK to tell you your cost.....and is it Canon or Cannon (knock-off)

You could bring back a few hundered Crocea clams and sell them out of your backyard!
Maybe even open a LFS if you find a good location.

I am in Hong Kong and was looking for cannon lenses too. But word of warning too all reefers going to Hong Kong for better price.
1. Always get the product in hand before paying 2. Pay in credit card only 3. Do not leave the money before you get the product. Good luck. I will be oing to Fish Alley to look at the fish too. Can we bring any fish or LPS or SPS back? By law? Simon |

I don't think you can bring in live stock back from oversea, they must be check by fish and wildlife, custom and all the good stuff. Corals are protected and all corals required cites permit.
