Cleaning Coraline Algae?

Coraline algae is sure nice, when it stays on my live rock. I've got it all over the front and sides of my acylic tank, and am worn out trying to scrape it (and not scratch the tank).
Any ideas for me?

Re: Cleaning Coraline Algae?

Scrape early and often. My magnet cleaner usually does the trick, but if I leave it a few days, then I have to get a razor blade and go after it.

Try a plastic razor blade it shouldn't cut the acrylic as bad as a steel.

So I can't just wish it away?!

I'm concerned about scratching with a razor blade... any further guidance? Never heard of a plastic razor blade before... will I find that at my LFS?

Thanks.

They should have them at the LFS. I think Kent Marine makes one if you want to look it up online. You could try a credit card as well.

ahullsb is correct they should have at LFS, however if not you should be able to get at a local automotive parts store thats where i've gotten them in the past. look identical in shape to a standard single edge blade but usually red plastic. the credit card will work also with some dilligance..............good luck

THANK YOU for the responses!

That credit card idea works well here in Minneapolis for scraping ice off the windshields, too. No problem if I break it, 'cause it is maxxed out from all the aquarium stuff I've bought over the past year!

I use a platick putty knife from Home Depot. Seems to work just as well and having the small handle is nice because I can get closer to the rock without accidentally causing an avalanche in my tank....AGAIN!!!
