carpet damp but no leaks - any ideas

the carpet in a closet about 4 feet from my tank is wet and it is clearly salt water. I have checked every connection and even broke down my protein skimmer and put in new seals - carpet is still damp - anyone ever have this problem

Have you tried pushing down the carpet in all the areas between the closet and the tank? It definitely sounds like there's water getting out from somewhere and you should be able to find the leak's path from tank to closet.

Do you have a sump below the tank? If so, any leaks under it or the plumbing leading to it. I've had leaks before from my skimmer and some plumbing that went unnoticed because it dripped under the tank and crept through the flooring to another area about 6 feet away.

Did you do a water change or mess around in there in the past 2 or 3 days? Saltwater seems to evaporate a lot slower than regular old water.
