Cleaning MH bulbs.

I just bought a used DE MH bulb. I know that I am not supposed to touch the bulb. Something about the oil on my skin messing it up. Is there some way I can clean this bulb before I install it just in case the seller accidently touched it or it got something on it in the shipping box.

a little windex on a rag... I always wrap bulbs up in a rag when I install them so i dont get any residue on the bulbs... I change a few MH's a week at work, and have never had a problem doing it like that.

QQ on a sort of related topic. Does everyone take the same precautions to keep oils/residue off of the outer envelope on SE bulbs? I'm pretty careful, but I am thinking it probably isn't necessary.

I wrap all MH bulbs with a rag before installing them just to be sure......

I use those disposable ones from the "rags in a box" to make sure theyre always nice and clean before installing them...

I always just screw my SE bulbs in with my bare hands. I rinse off any salt spray with fresh water and wiped them down with a towel......

They say that if you get oil on the bulb that it could create a hot spot on the bulb and crack the bulb. It makes sense but I would imagine you would have to get a lot of oil on the bulb though. Either way you want to keep the bulb nice and clean to get the most out of it.

Paper towel to all halide bulbs after using bare hands to install.

On the SE's, I've seen guys screw them in by hand and leave them. No wiping. I was told that if you keep your fingers towards the end of the shield(basically, not under the bulb itself), it will be fine. He has never had a problem. I still use a paper towel. Never used any cleaners...
