I had a six-line take out a pair of sexy shrimp - that was a show, talk about Wild Kingdom! Other than that, he was peaceful.

have one in my display, it picks on any new fish, just recently added a small royal gramma sp? and it darts toward him every time that the gramma is out, the first week the gramma was in the tank, he had spots missing from his tail. The six line has previously killed a carpenters and I am nervous about adding any other wrasses.

The six line I have tears up flat worms though, and is constantly hunting for pods. I do have several peppermints and a couple cleaner shrimp that have not been bothered by it though. HTH

ON that page, you can see wazbot's account of a 6-line killing his mandarin... in a rather large tank FWIW.

6-lines are B-fish IMO. Get a solar wrasse, radiant, or yellow coris instead, you wont regret it.

The general consensus is that sixlines are model tankmates. The only weird thing that mine does is once in a while it tilts to its side while having a seizure (shaking). I don't know why he does it..

I've had my sixline in my Display for a little under a year.

He's in a 29 Gallon Cube.

He was the first addition after the clean up crew.

He lives with a Black Clown Fish, a Yellow Watchman, and a Fire Shrimp.

I did witness him take out a VERY small blue leg hermit. But he hasn't bothered anything else in the tank at all. He used to nip at my Super Tongan Nassarus's Tube when they were out, but he probably realized they tasted like crap since he doesn't bug them anymore.

Lined wrasses will become more and more aggressive as they grow and of course more and more stuff they can take out.

Had one in a 60 gallon. Was fine for about 6 months...then took out alot of my nassarius snails...then started to harass my clown. Had to take him out before he ate all of my nassarius snails.

Mine does this also, but it is always on the front of the glass. I wonder if he is seeing his own reflection and is trying to take it out?

If it is doing against the rocks, it is probably cleaning itself out.

I've had a 6-line for about 5 years (75 gal and then to my current 120 gal). It gets along just fine with its tankmates. Since it competes with Mandarin for food (and wins) you probably wouldn't want to add one if you have a Mandarin.

For a 40B, I would suggest flasher or carpenter wrasses over a 6-line any day. 6-lines are common, and they are often sold small, but the reality is that they will get larger (Ive seen them 4"), and have a personality of a larger wrasse as a consequence... even when smaller.
I agree. My 6 line was a bully. Their are other wrasses out there that are much more colorful and fun to watch. Flashers are by far my favorite. Nice displays in my tank at night.

My coral beauty took an instant disliking to the 6line... chased him around quite severely on the first day... which was weird because she'd never bothered anyone before. The bullying wasn't so bad after the first day, and the 6-line could out manoeuvre the CB if she spotted him.

Unfortunately the 6-line disappeared when I tried turning the lights out for 3 days to battle some nonsense algae. I have an open top so he was either dog or fish food.

Sixlines can be aggressive, but I'll take them BEFORE I take any damsel anyday.

Talking

I have had a 6 line wrasse for the last 7 years in my 220 gallon tank. No issues with other tank mates including fish, hermet crabs, shrimp, snails, etc. Very hardy and colorful!

How were they towards other tank mates?

Not a single problem I've ever noticed. No aggression of any sort.

How were they towards crustaceans, specifically crabs and shrimps?

No problems that I've ever noticed. I only have blue leg hermits and snails + 1 emerald crab but he's never show the slightest interest in them.

Small crustaceans such as anemone shrimps and sexy shrimps?

Can't say.

How were they towards other wrasses?

No other wrasses for me.

Sixlines are by far one of my favorite fish. My only complaint is I think he would compete for pods with a mandarin dragonet which is a fish I've always wanted to own.

It does come down to the fish though. I had a Pygmy Angel that never touched my corals, but I would never get another one just from the stories I hear about how they love to munch on them. Hahnmeister is known to state that Tomini Tangs need robust tankmates. IMO my Tomini is one of the more peaceful fish in my tank.

I have a 60 gallon and my six line does not bother the blenny, chromis or my small hippo tang. Never seen it bother my peppermint shrimp or the pair of cleaner shrimp.
I did add a feather duster and it was eaten the next day. My suspect is the wrasse. He roots around for food all day and I think he made quick work of my new $20 feather duster.

Do six-lines bury themselves into the sand bed at night like other coris wrasses do?
