Solaris G Series

I was thinking of purchasing one of these for my 125 (18" deep) and was wondering if anyone has had success running these with SPS? Expensive as @#%@, but with all the money i spend on t5's and mh bulbs and electricity, it seems like it would be worth it.

Thanks for the info,

Mike

I have and sell them at my store. Everyone that has purchased them loves them and I am very impressed with the unit. Here is your potential problem, the G series is no longer being made so finding one may be impossible.

I have heard nothing but huge problems out of these sytems by Solaris...

I have heard that the LED's are not what they are "cranked" up to be and that there are massive problems with the corals afterward...

Just my experience..
Id like someone to chime in and prove me wrong!

Yeah a friend has one and a few leds have went out in the first 2-3 months i dont know if you can replace individual leds or only a whole bank but pfo said these leds would last for years and beat replacing bulbs but maybe there isnt enough time and testing done long term on these led fixtures to prove how long there good for. It is man made so this might be the only one but I would like to hear from people who have the light for 9 months or longer

The guy i know has sps under his solaris but wild or more difficult sps might not work. Just go with halide or t5 at least there are proven to be good lighting. The corals might live and grow under solaris but the color will not be as good unless you keep the corals close to the light.

I have had my Solaris over my 60 gallon cube tank (24 in x 24 in x 24 in) since March. I personally love it, but there are pros and cons. Please note that I have the original G model and NOT the new I model.

Pros:
Very little heat
No bulb replacements
Controller is awesome and the lighting is incredible (nothing else can simulate clouds, cloudy days, moon phases, different hemispheres, etc)
Leds are the future

Cons:
High Cost
Very new technology and LED's are getting more powerful all the time---ie you will upgrade eventually.
In my opinion, not as powerful as MHs yet.

I live in Florida, so the heat issue is a big deal for me. Also, my tank is mostly LPS and they are doing great under the Solaris. However, my 2 Acroporas are doing OK, but not growing that much (and I have a Nielson reactor for topoff and a Geo calcium reactor, so it isn't the calcium or alk).

I think that the first generation of Solaris give off about T5 levels of light, not MH levels. Now the new 2nd Generation I hear are much more powerful, but I haven't tested them.

I'm happy with the lights and as LEDs get more powerful, I think that everyone in the hobby will be using them eventually.
