Using dual overflows for microalgae???

Has anyone ever tried to use their overflows for/as a refugium with microalgae?.. I am using durso standpipes so I don't see why this would not work. Any ideas, suggestions?

Probably too much flow to be really effective.

That and the macro algae will end up plugging up the overflow and then watch the water flow>>>
