Personally, I like purple tang better. I have seen people keep them in group and they really swim together. How beautiful.

If it matters, purples can be very aggressive.

I love my orange shoulder tang but miss my purple. Overall I think if I had to pick again I would take the orange shoulder tang.

In a 90g the orange shoulder isn't even an option. They grow far too fast and far too large. They are also one of the more active swimmers. And you already have a sailfin... Those outgrow most tanks eventually. Honestly the only tang you've listed that I would advise for a 90g is the purple.

I lost alot of my fish to a disease after I upgraded tanks.
In a 90 yeah the Orange Shoulder would outgrow it and the Purple would fight the Sailfin so really neither would work for you in that tank.

I have a number of Tangs in my tank and the one that has probably become my favorite (and often overlooked by many hobbyists) is my Powder Brown. That is a beautiful fish! Very subtle but the closer you look, the more colors you see.

Not aggressive like the Powder Blue and does not grow very fast. Gets along with the other Tangs (and everybody else in the tank for that matter).

I hardily recommend a Powder Brown Tang for a 90ga with a Sailfin!

I have seen several Sailfins do well in smaller (<120ga) tanks. I even know of a guy that has 3 huge tangs (1 being a Sailfin) in a 65ga doing really well. I wouldn't have believed it had I not seen it with my own eyes!!

I had a purple tang for a short while before I lost to a parasite despite my best treatment efforts. I rescued/inherited the tank from a friend/irresponsible aquarist, and he came along with it. He was active, responsive, and peaceful (even towards a blue tang of similar size in a 75g tank.) He would even swim around my hand and rub up against it when I put it in the tank. I love purple tangs and their personalities. Beautiful as well.

Forget about the purple tang. You have a sailfin. They will fight until one knowcks off the other. I recently bought a powder brown tang, that went into a tank with a 5" sailfin, a bristle tooth, and a 4" hippo tang. The powder brown is only about 2" so I was worried that he would just get killed. To much amazedment he actually holds his own, and is very colorful.

I was going to suggest a Kole too. They are very peaceful and do not grow too fast. I have a yellow eye kole and his colors a beautiful and he is a happy fish. Timid at first but they grow out of it..

Good Luck

A Sailfini will out grow a 90 in about a year or so. My sailfin looked not too happy in my 125, got it at about 3" and I sold it couple weeks ago and it's about 7"+/-. It went to a 240G. I would go with a kole tang. Also 3 tangs in a 65 is plain irresponsible, JMO.

I agree..........I was just commenting that all 3 Tangs were big and beautiful despite their absurdly small accommodations. Definite newbys to be sure.
