Eggcrate as a cover?

I was thinking of using eggcrate to cover my tank because fish keep jumping out and if i use a regular top the temp gets to high. My only worry is does it block the light and make a showdow on the tank?

Thanks

I use Eggcrate on top of my 120 with no problems. My 2 Metal halide fixtures go right through and hit the entire tank...

Ditto.... Lighting not an issue. Water evaporation goes up that all.

Small fish can still jump thru the eggcrate. I lost a firefish that jumped thru the eggcrate and ended up on the floor.

I used some kitchen shears to cut it. When you look at the eggcrate it will have a thin side and a wide side. Just make sure that you have the wider side of the eggcrate facing up.

Egg crate does block some light but it is only noticable when it is not there. The tank is just a little brighter. Fish can jump through it but they have to have really good aim to do it. Cutting with a Dremel and a cut off disk is the fastest and easiet way to cut it.
