Unless you want to buy your RoDi water, then yes...its an essential in my opinion.I would suggest the typhoon III from airwaterice.

They are a comas sponsor, so go to our website and then look them up in the sponsors section.

Paul.

You can buy the RO/DI water locally at Quality Water on 6th street by the Mill. they charge $0.50 per gallon.

I'd second the suggestion of Paul's. I've got one of their units and it works great. I actually combined it with an old ebay RO/DI to make a 160 gpd unit with dual RO and dual DI.

Thanks for the info, I lack the "I Support RC" Logo, thus searching is tiring.

Im looking into this for more than just the aquarium. I was hoping to get something installed into our new home. For drinking as well.

This is what I am looking at.

The one that you suggested, could it be used for household drinking water as well?

You can use the Typhoon III for drinking water. This is copied from the "features" section of that unit:

"The RO only valve: a sample port for testing the membrane and for filling jugs of drinking."

This allows you to bypass the D/I segment of the filter for drinking water. All you would need would be a container, which you can get from Wal Mart. And, this unit comes with a TDS meter.

You can't go wrong with the Typhoon III. I bought one a couple months ago and it has been great not to have to carry buckets back and forth from the fish store.

I have the Typhoon III and really like it.

I just traded emails with Don today. I had a question about a problem with the unit that reads TDS before and after so he's replacing it free. Tough to beat that.

I am not sure if this is true, but I have heard and read that it is not a good idea to drink RO/DI water as it can "leach" the minerals out of your body because the water lacks essential minerals.

Drinking filtered water, yes....RO/DI water no. Am I correct?

yes, but you would have to drink a fair amount.

It essentially dilutes the electrolytes in your body.

Thats good to know, I have heard it's not good to drink DI water but didn't know why.

RO is fine. You won't want to drink RO/DI anyway as it is really tasteless.

for very large system, there is a medical service in OKC that will hook up a unit you can use your garden hose. it can put out a lot of volume as fast as your hose can put out
