Are you trying to use the LCD as a live preview and take the photo?

not a feature of the D40

You need to use the view finder to compose the shot. The picture should show up on the LCD after you take it.

I do not think the D40x has live preview either. Most DSLR's do not as the mirror is in the way of the sensor which does not allow it to happen.

D300 is the first DSLR to have live preview, I believe. That's a significant jump up from the D40 though!

No actually. But it is a nice camera.

If you're looking for live preview in that price range, look at the Canon 40D. (It's a better camera than the D40*)

yes i was looking at the 40D but for the price diff(800) i think i'll be happy with the D40x. 'm going to change it in becuz of the focusing. I have several lenses but the don't have auto fucos in the lens soo.

Hey Crimthann,
Do you have the Nikon D40X? I just got one myself and I am clueless on how to get good pictures. I guess I need to get a Sigma 105mm lens.

My favorite lens with my D40 is the Sigma 150 macro.

I don't think any lens is going to "get you good pictures".....
