i thought on a resirc skimmer your supposed to have 1.5 times the flow through it then total system volume......i thinki i have that, i didnt clock it yet though....i have a valve on the output to get the right water level and the water just dribbles out.....i'm also not gettting that great of Foam is it b/c there isnt much load in the tank?

I i think i might have to plumb the skimmer with a feed pump

If this is a new setup, it takes time for everything to slime over and break in, including your skimmer.

My recirculating skimmer the water comes out quikly out of the return from the skimmer, it dosnt trickle at all. I found the more water I put through the skimmer the better it worked. My valve to feed the skimmer is almost wide open and it works great.

my valve is wide open also but i dont have much flow from the drain so i had to put a valve on the output to raise the water level

ye I'm having trouble with the skimmer tho....to get the water line that a lot of people recommend i have to put a valve on the output and nearly close it all the way, so much that the water just trickles out......is it b.c the way i plumbed the skimmer, if so how should i do it.
-I really dont want to do a feed pump b/c i feel the overflow method is more efficient.

Since most people want more contact time in the skimmer, I don't see why it is a problem that it trickles out. It should be quiet, it is on around the clock, and skimmate is being collected. It must be working.

It comes down to how the tank water parameters test - consistent with low nitrate & phosphate, or increasing levels over time. You also want to see how the water in the display looks to you, as well as how algae lives or doesn't live in the tank.

Actually, it is a specific GPH that is recommended. However, we all have to make adjustments that fit our circumstances.

-Thats great to hear about the lights i was leaning more towards t5's anyway i'm kinda stumped on bulb combo tho..?

-as for fish i have my clarki clown in a 10g rite now, plan on 1-2x anthias, 2x firefish and a mandarin(in about a year)....any suggestion would help, i'm looking for one larger fish to replace the anthais or firefish, or any other fish u guys have in mind.

-i'm going to upgrade to tropic marine salt once i run out of coralife......

-This tank is going to be covered in coral so i dont want any angel or anything that would risk nipping.

1. I think your already done (lucky).
2. you should check for phosphate, calcium, iodine, alk., and PH so we can complain about your cycling.
3. unless your rock is uncured or you used tap water but anyway i'd just leave it for a week just in case a you put a $100 fish in it and it dies.
