Bubble Algae

im starting to get an out break of bubble algae in the back of my 90 and i read that you cant just try to take it out because if you break it in the water it will release some kind of spores and spread all over the tank... anyone have any solutions. plus it is really hard almost like rock.

Do you have any emerald crabs in your tank? They have been noted to eat bubble algae.

I have you don't Premium Aquatics have them in stock. One note is your tank invert safe?

yeah it is invert safe. and we do have a handful of crabs but they dont seem to be helping.. maybe we just need more.

not just any crab, an emerald crab. But as Ken would tell you "lower your nitrates and it can't grow no need to add anything"

PA has lots of emeralds and they are great at cleaning up some algae. Some have claimed they bother there corals, but I have 4 emeralds in my little 30 gallon reef and the tank is healthy as can be.

I'm really w/daveandliz on this one. Any chance if I brought the stuff to the meeting, we could do a hands on DYI fuge demo? I have a 29 that I think will fit under my 65. would that work?

What is it that you dont understand about setting up a fuge? Is it just how to place/space the baffles or the whole plumbing aspect?

Actually to have a fuge you don't need baffles or anything. People put baffles to keep bubbles under control. They are not needed but a lot of people use them. They have a purpose.
A fuge can be as simple as a place to put macro algae, extra Live rock or a deep sand bed to aid in de-nitrification.
Sump = extra water volume and a place to hide your equiptment.
Fuge = extra water volume with live plants and bacteria as the equiptment.

When you come to the meeting I have a 50/50 sump/fuge you can check out. You can get some cheato while your in there.

for what size tank with that work on ?

2 hints for keeping baffles in, use aquarium silicone (you can get it at HD) and fill all sections of the sump at the same time, so that there isnt a huge amount of pressure pushing on any one baffle.

i have a sump just like the picture but the problem is the plumbing.. i would love to have an overflow but unfortunately my hood was made by the previous owner and we had to special rig it to be abe to put the filter hat hangs on theback....we do have room under our stand for a sump/fuge but dont know where to start on getting the right tools and materials
