I finally got around to doing the GS2 mod that I ordered a while back on my maxijet 1200... man o man... does this thing put out some flow! It does have a hum but not a clatter sound... is this normal and is there anything to do about it? I also love the fact that it is much smaller and inconspicuous than the seio 1100 that this mod took the place of...now I will do the other one since I really like this one.

Where are you all placing these modded maxijets..in back corners????? On opposite ends of the tank facing each other???? Or some other configuration?

Also, what will the difference in flow be if I did the other mod on a maxijet 900 instead of another 1200?

I currently only have one mj mod, it's the ecomod. I originally had it connected to a 1200 and I liked the flow but my anemone did not so I switched to the 600. I have it on the right side tankwall in the center about 3 to 4 inches from the top. Hope this helps.

Mine does not make a sound before or after I put it on a timer. Not all will agree but I still have mine on suction cups. I drilled holes in the back of the mj and used a zip tie and tied it to the bracket with the cups. Holds up real nice and it enabled me to center the powerhead the right way. I'll post a pic later.

The gs2 is designed for the 1200 as the 900 won't be able to spin the impeller well. There is no hum coming from mine at all. I have one gs2 in the top right corner of my 125g and a sureflow high mod in teh top left corner on the opposite side. I have a dsb and it is not affected by the 4000-5000gph flow.

I am still using the suction cups that came with the GS2 also, I think they are much better than the seio suction cups OR the regular maxijet ones...ok, so what should I do about the "HUUUMMM" ???

A soft hum is normal. For me is hard to hear it because of the noise cause by other equipment

Ok... unless it gets worse and becomes a clattering noise I won't worry about it... especially since this is an inwall and everything is behind in the fish room...

On a side note...I still have to do the other maxijet with the other GS2 I bought, but the flow from this one is amzing... I still have the other seio 1100 on the opposite side until I do the other mod... anyway, the fish are a little freked out from this increased flow...what will happen when I put the other maxijet on? of course I will be taking the seio off, but will they eventually become adjusted to the increased flow?

My fish, corals and sand looked pretty bad when I first installed the mods but now everything is normal and only by looking at polyps you can tell the amount of flow I have. I'm using 4 in my 100g, 3 go off at night.
I would like to hear more about people having these on wavemakers.

4???? Really??? My tank is 180... I can't imagine... having 4 in there......how long did it take you fish, sand, corals... to adjust? I don't know if my 18 inch GBTA is happy with this increased flow or not...how will it react when I up it even more?

Here is what I was talking about, two small holes in the back to run the zip tie through. Very smooth and quiet.

I would say good idea but kind of unsafe unless you superglued the cap back on. If for some reason the power head falls you can get a bad mess, the propeller can get locked and the mj will fry your tank.
All this can happen with the suction cups too, that's why I use magnets, Just my opinion

so far the suction cups that came with the GS2 seem to hold very well... they are not your regular black ones... they are clear and feel like they are made out of a different plastic than the rubbery black ones.

don't trust them though. I did and went away for 10 days and came back with all them ph's on the bottom and all my corals covered in sand!! I have three gs2's in my 120 and I love them. Almost too much flow. Go to the first page here and there are cheap magnets we can use to secure the ph's. Thats what I'm doing.

can I see a pic of how and where you glued these magnets on? Also, I sent an email to Matt last night about the hummming and asked if I could install one on a MJ900 and what would the flow loss be. he said that if I have the white prop and not the brown one, then that is the HIGH FLOW model and it won't work on a MJ900...he said the medium flow prop is brown...can anyone confirm this as I ordered the medium flow model, but I DO have the whilte prop...just wondering.
