Question keeping rock clean...

how do you guys do it?? my rock will turn to crap after a few months after i bump and scrub it... don this 2x now... rock will get a cake layer of deterius on it... i think i have plenty of flow.. ( 5 mj mods ) 2 in the upper mid pointing each direction.. then 2 on front both sides... (L & R) pointing at the rockwork.. then i have one on the back right pointing longways on off the back glass so that water flows towards the overflow ( which is on the back left)... im trying to habe a sps dominatd tank... and this gluck makes it hard to attach corals.. AND MAKE THE TANK LOOK LIKE CRAP...

Once a month or so I take a low power power head (40 gph?) and blow off all my rocks.

My reason for not having crabs is they kill all my snails and I have witnessed the murders.

O.....nature at its finest! It'll happen...YET...crabs do more GOOD than harm.
I have snails reaching 4yrs old! Some crabs too!

I'll promise you'll see a diff if you add 50 or so!!

Cheers

man.. thats a chore to baster it every week.. and if thats what you do ( baster rock) how do you manage with lots of corals in tank??? the mj mods pumpout 1400 gph each.. 1400 x 5 = 7000 gph and then my return.. which is a pxx 50 ( when i connect my sump/fuge to the main tank again) i feed mostly dry food.. what are good rock cleaners??? i dont like crabs though.. they seem to just fisght each other and die..

I don't think it's really so bad to do this with a turkey baster. Now, try it with a little pipette, that's a chore! As far as avoiding corals goes, you just have to be careful and maneuver around them.

Emerald Crabs don't eat snails for the shells like hermits. I had some problems when I tried pellets. They seem to fall onto the rocks and deteriorate.

guess ill just have to go back to the basten... but man.. my friggin forarm gets soo work out.. ( and i use to be a tinknocker... aka sheet metal worker) ...someone start a new thread on pellets and dirty rock.. a pole.... i would do it myself but dont know how... maybe have to find a small PH with a long cord... ( why are the cords for saltwater soo friggin short.. why not 12' or something.. that way they can be snaked cleanly to a plugin..)

I've never feed my tank any sort of dry food. Go with frozen, it stays in the water column longer, so your skimmer will be able to get it.

You do have a skimmer, don't you????

I never had a problem with my rock being dirty until I started feeding the new life fish food. and I don't feed to much either. I feed very little and very slow so no food goes uneaten. I think it is from when they poop.
