Bubbles with new MH's
I recently purchased a new hood with 2 110w VHOs and 2 175w 10000k MHs. From the first day I turned on the bulbs I have had tiny bubbles on the glass and rock and sand. Is this ok? Is there something I should do to get rid of them?

Strange
Can't say it sounds like anything to worry about though..

Most likely you are now starting to see the bubble because lights are too bright and before it was kinda dark
No seriously, this could be simply coincidence as your tank may have cycled completely at the same time? Those are gas bubbling away If I were you though, I would go ahead and do a complete test of the water pH Nitrite Nitrate Amonia phosphate Specific Gravity so on... Congrat on the new hood and bulbs. Always make things very lively |

I got the same thing when I added more light to my tank. Nothing to worry about IMO.
I believe it would be gas released from live items in the tank being more productive due to increased lighting. |

When I upgraded from a 175 to a 400 mh, I noticed the same "bubbles." This is kinda a guess, but I think it has to do with photosynthesis and increased respiration from the new light. Anyway you cut it, i don't believe you need to get worried about it.

In general, all of the life processes in your tank will speed up considerably when going to a more intense light source. As a result, you are probably seeing ..
OK, mdhyde must have replied right before I hit reply, his explanation is what I was getting at Also, make sure to gradually increase the light cycle .. turning the halides on a full light cycle immediately will more than likely cause some algae problems. |

I think the bubbles are probably due to new algae growth.
Anytime you step in lighting your going to see algae start growing or grow faster than before. |
