what is a good skimmer for a 40g tank with a 20L sump

I would recommend a EuroReef RS80. It will do a great job on a 40 gallon. I use it on my 55 gallon and it works great.

I agree, for a 40g setup, ER RS80 is a good fit.

Yep, the euro will work well. If you a budget guy you can look at the octo 110 or octo 150. They will work fine as well.
