question for the lounge vets

i have an almost 10yr old german shepherd she's always had a hard time in the colder months with arthritis in her hind quarters mainly her surgery side where she has pins, plates and rod in her leg but this is her whole hind quarters now that is giving her problems.......i had to carry her down the stairs so she could go to the bathroom.......is there anything i could do for her, i know some in the past have mentioned baby aspirin just not sure on the dosage amount? thanks i'm heading to work right now and won't be able to respond till 2pm. thanks in advance

Glucosamine has become bigger here for the treatment of arthritis. As for dosagaes I would recommend calling your vet. Your vet is always going to give you the best advise, so I would definitely contact them.

Artritis pain? Easily fixed with one shot.

OK, now that that obligation is out of the way...
There are a number of things that may help to improve your kid's quality of life such as gdietary supplements, NSAIDS, opiods, or injectable steroids. I can't go into more detail because i am not your vet and we don't have this pesky thing called a veterinary-client-patient relationship. What i can say is perhaps aspirin isn't the best idea in the world. Also, since your regular vet knows your animal better than anyone here, it would probably be a good idea to get his/her opinion.

Good luck. It's hard watching your kid in pain.

They do make doggy aspirin. It is supposed to taste like beef to them and works pretty good.

I give my Patches a doggy aspirin if I can see she is having a rough time getting around when it is really cold.

I have taken her in to get an adequin shot, but only when she got really bad and only a couple of times.

Rimadyl could be another option, but make sure you research that one.

Being my Border Collie is 11 yrs old....for some reason she is getting around a ton better than in years past and the only thing that I have done differently in the last year is change over to Canidae all stages food.

I would discuss your options with the vet.
