tigger pods
has anyone used this in their reef tank? Is this something that can survive longer than just a few feedings in the main tank? I have read that they usually don't survive longer than a week. Also that tigger pods survive in colder temps. Is this true? I was looking at it for upping the pod population for pod eaters like the mandarins. I have read about ocean pods but i can't get that here since i live in okinawa.

You need to give them a fuge or something to multiply in. I succesfully aqaucultered them in a 5 gallon tank for about 5 months. You only get about 150 in a bottle, barely enough for a few days for a mandarin.

are you serious? Wow i would have thought maybe a week, but if i did put them in my main tank can they thrive? I don't have a fuge so that is why i ask? If i made a rock formation where they can hide from the fish would that work?

If you put them straight into the tank with the lights on they will be instantly decimated by your fish. You may try adding them with the light offs in a LR pile in your tank. However I would seriously consider creating a HOB fuge.

Hang On Back Refugium
Like a gutted aquaclear that has a deep sand bed, LR pile and a ball of chaeto in it.

I have no sump or refugium. I open the bottle under water and take it to the bottom and pour them out . i have pipefish and scooter and i see the the pods come out and feed when i turn off the pumps and feed the tank

If you don't have a fuge, you can also get those strawberry crates or someting like it. Put it in your tank with live rock in it and place it upside down. You can hide it under rock formations or place in the back of your tank. This gives them a "safe haven" to multiply. Hope that helps a little.

are you talking about those little plastic trays for strawberries at like a grocery store? or are you talking about something completely different? I am picturing a small container about the size of two fist.

I poured some of these in my tank like four months ago and never saw anything again. This month my tank is swarming with pods. It's like they were in hiding breeding the whole time and now my population has exploded.

I'm not sure about those, maybe someone else can chime in. I thought the organizer baskets were only coated with plastic or rubber material, if that is the case I would say no. Maybe some kind of netting, than you can place some rubble in it and close it off. Look at aqautic***.com they always have good stuff.

You can usually find strawberry baskets at feed and grain stores.

Anything that protects them from predation and gives them a chance to reproduce.
A hang on fuge w/ chaeto really helps, and gives a food source, more live rock the better as well. Buying pods gets expensive after a while, but helps getting started. Some vendors give a variety of pods in each bottle, not just tiger, better odds IMO
