Any Military Personel?
Not going political here.
I just returned from my AIT training yesterday at Fort Sill, Oklahoma and found out my unit is going to Kuwait in January. Well, first we are training at Fort Hood for 3 months, but after, it's Kuwait time. Anyone been to Kuwait? I hear it is pretty nice. All soldiers do is work out. Any comments are nice.

its not too bad but its the stop before Iraq. I wouldnt post too much about what you are doing....opsec....you know that thing they drill into your head over and over. Congrats on getting through basic and ait. You should go active duty. I know I wouldnt want to go to the sandbox with two days a month training

I spent 6 months in Iraq and a few month in Kuwait back in 2003 and it was pretty nice . Make sure you stay away from them camel, they aren't that friendly . I don't know exactly what the soldier do but us the Marine we seriously don't have the luxury to lift weight or check out the city. I wish you the best of luck and come back safely... rlee81indy, like the word OPSEC... Everytime i use that word, it make me feel i am doing a special ops... It is ok to share your experience with fellow military member.

Thank you all for your service!
We had the honor of having 2 Marines at our Thanksgiving table today. What wonderful young men and very interesting to talk to. We got to pick them up on base and took them to my mom's where they thoroughly enjoyed a homemade feast. Both of them had just gotten back from Iraq 15 days ago. Jordan55- take care and thanks again!

Mano, that is very nice of you. I guess that two Marine Stationed in Miramar or Camp Pendleton . Many Marines, soldier, Sailor and Air Force can't come home for Thanksgiving dinner either they stationed far away from home or they are oversea. Whatever you do mean alot to them. When i found out i have to stand duty today because my Marine can't make it back on time from leave. First i was mad but i realize there are hundred of thousand military personel who can't make it home for dinner. My 24hrs during don't mean anything.... Happy thanksgiving....

Jarhead,
The Marines are stationed Camp Pendleton. Both were from out of state and will be going home for Christmas. It was the least we could do and I know they had a good time. My mom is a great cook and I know they appreciated it and they deserved it. I'm sure my parents would have all of them over for dinner if they could

When my Dad was teaching at West Point we would sponsor a dozen or so cadets that couldn't go home for Christmas and buy them gifts and have Christmas morning with them. We'd get them stuff they didn't bring with them like a football or baseball gloves !
Years after the Point we would always have two Christmas dinners.....the first was at the Mess Hall and the other one was at home !

I was Military for 12 years. Army in and out of Kuwait for 6 years. Very nice. It is about 120 deg constantly during the day, anywhere from 60-40 at night. amazing how hot to cold during the day nights. You will be next to the ocean. If you get time off there is a MWr spot called the marble palace. Its out side of camp doha. lots of fun there. swiming and recreation activities. The unit that you will be with will make sure you take advantage of all off duty time. Everyone needs to relax. If you do have personal on your own time dont go alone. Take a friend and be safe! When i was there it was no problem. I went to the bars ( not like an american bar they are what we call roadside market restaraunts). All in all I loved Kuwait. I miss it. just be safe if you feel uncomfortable get out of there and back to saftey. But knowing the military the wont let you get into that position.
Good luck ~~ come back home!

Thanks everyone. Sounds like a lot of people had a happy T-day with their loved ones, so that is good.
I think I am meeting with my battery sergeant this week. So hopefully I can get some more info as to exactly where we will be going, what we might be doing, and the length of stay (even though I already know it changes over and over).
