You'd better get used to waking up at the crack of dawn and the phrase "hurry up and wait." You'll be doing A LOT of that in boot for sure.

Congrats on making the huge step.

Try 3:00am during basic training. Sometimes its 230am. Dont forget about the 1 hour guard duty you have to do as well during the middle of the night. Luckily this only happens during basic training.

Congrats and enjoy your military career.

Bringin this thread back to life!!!

Well guys, the time has come...it came fast too. I'm leaving tonight to the hotel and then MEPS in the early am, and I'm off to Ft. Leonard Wood for basic. Just wanted to say one final farewell to you all, and see if you had any last minute tips or pointers for me during basic.

I'm gonna miss the hobby, sold most of my stuff, but I WILL be back

Thanks for all the great info, comments, and inspiration. Glad to be part of the family!

Jim stay in as long as you can take-it.
I spend 10 years in and I wish I would have stayed in longer.
Go Army.

Also wanted to add that I'm currently in the Army National Guard (and college, and working) so feel free to ask me anything about the enlistment process!

BASIC IS OVER

Hey guys and gals! I graduated from basic training this morning! Glad the 2.5 months are over. My Family flew out here for the graduation, so I couldn't ask for anything more! Leaving to Ft. Bragg, NC friday to continue my training and complete Airborne.

Just wanted to say hello, and let you all know I made it okay.

Thanks for all the support guys! Proud to serve this country.

FooGoo, I'm in a civil affairs unit located in San Diego,Ca. You would have to go to AIT at Ft.Bragg, NC since its a special ops unit and Airborne is required. Great unit!

Well guys, I'm off to Ft. Bragg, take care!

I'm actually looking at the PSYOP unit in SD as well, so if all goes well, I may not be too far behind you at Bragg.

...and RC will have a CA and PSYOP soldier and its disposal

Congrats. Glad you are enjoying what you are doing. And thanks for serving.

sammoorefield,
Good luck. Did you pick out a rate or are you just going in as a sailor?

I am going in as a AT... I will get E-4 when I complete A school in Pensacola. Hopefully I will be eligible for E5 since I was before I got out of the Navy last time. If not I will just have to wait a year... No big deal. I am planning on retiring this time, so I have plenty of time to make rank.

What was your rate Chief?

I started life as a TD, one of the old airdale rates that no longer exist. It was one of the Avionics rates, AT, AQ, AX and TD. I went to the same schools as the AT's but skipped the radar portion and went to TD "A" school for flight simulators. I got chosen to go to a special base in Fla and so had to go back thru the air borne radar part. The schools used to be in Millington, Tenn. just out side of Memphis. Spent a few years in Fla working on Russian radars at a training site.

They decided to get rid of my rate and so I switched to Fire Control missile tech. That later was combined with guns and became just Fire Controlman. I retired just before 9-11 with 21 years in. I spent 2 years waiting for a call back but it never happened. I would have gone in a heart beat as long as they would waive my weight. Got a little chunky after retirment.

I still work for the Navy now doing a lot of the same things I did while I was in.

I'm supprised they won't give you E-5 after school since you were one already. Unless it's because you were out too long. Anyways, good luck and enjoy the oppertunities that come your way.

Hey everyone. Just checking in with you all. I'm home on leave from Fort Bragg, NC until the 2nd of Jan. Feels great! I missed this place so much.

Also, got word that my unit is getting mobilized for deployment in September. 12 months in Afghanistan, and I'm ready to go!

Anyways, just wanted to wish everyone happy holidays!
