I used fishing line to put my mesh on the impeller.

I did the mesh mod using gutter guard. It lasted about 5 days before getting shredded. Is this normal? I have done the same mod 2 times now with the same results.

What other materials would work? I know Enkamat works but I dont have the funds to buy a large piece. Anyone know an alternative or how to get a free sample of Enkamat 7010?

Try this place for a small kit to do a mod on your pump.

edwing206, brilliant!

sjm, have you tried putting the guttergaurd over the top of the wheel needles instead of snipping all of the needles off and putting the gutterguard on a naked wheel?

mfinn, is that Enkamat "Plus"?

It is my understanding from several posts earlier in the thread that if you leave 2 or 3 needles to help stabilize the enkamat/mesh/gg , that is ok, but to leave all of the needles in place and mount the mesh over them actually DECREASES the air volume in addition to significantly increasing the load on the pump.

I checked the last 28 pages of this thread with googlebar highlight search and couldn't find any info on air flow changes in regard to leaving pins on the wheel.

Well, the thread has been split about 4 or 5 times. It was somewhere back there. If I remember correctly, I believe the post was by Rich Conley. Don't hold me to that, but keep reading and you will find it.

I'm now using an OR2700 (needlewheel) for the feed, but it seems to underfeed for my system volume. An OR3700 might be about right.
Is there a problem with overfeeding the skimmer?

Seems to be a balance between feed rate when doing recirc config. I usually see 1x - 1.5x system volume/hr commonly recommended. With the mod I made, I separated the center column with a pipe to minimize turbulence from incoming water. I realized this was now water getting no air contact, so I decided to somehow inject air into the incoming water too. I decided the OR3500 with the 2 venturis gave around 350gph, about right for my system. I guess a properly configured needlewheel feed pump could accomplish the same thing.

If Aquatic Noggin would've used the 9000 to feed a config like mine (or probably any other recirc confing) I think it would have gone over the 1-1.5x guideline.

ASM Skimmer users need their own "club" forum on RC so we can talk about different topics on the skimmer without reading 28 pages.

Im thinking about buying a ASM mini skimmer for my 25g cube, and 10g sump. The section im putting the skimmer in is a very tight fit, 10inches(length) and 8.5 inches(width). Will the ASM mini skimmer fit in there along with the pump?

Does anybody think that a 3/8" x 1/4" nylon barb to mip adapter would be too big of an air hole for a venturi mod?

Oh, I forgot! This is for a G3.

I think that's a good idea. Some of us that live in rural areas don't have aquarium clubs that we can go to.

We could have more that one thread in our "club" forum.

I saw that the new G4X has a new Sedra 15000 pump. I would love to get my hands on one of those, any idea where I can get the needle wheel pump and if needed a new venturi?

Enkamat is generally used for pond filters, IIRC. Its a hard plastic mesh. Do a search on Aquaticeco for pics. There have been a couple of people who bought large pieces, and are probably selling some.
What size Enkamat do you use? .25 or .40 ?

I have bought G3 parts from www.customaquatic.com. They have been good people to work with.

If you have Google toolbar you can search each page with the highlight function. Type the word you're looking for and start at the top of each page clicking on the button. This instantly scrolls to where your word is with a highlight on it. Then click again for the next place the word shows up on the same page. Repeat for each page.

I'd sure be interested in looking at a Sedra 15000.
Anybody know where they are sold?

I just put a Eheim 1262 with the Euro Reef needle wheel and venturi on my G4. It's also the recurculating mod done to it. Much better than the standard Sedra 9000 (which froze up on me recently). It was only 1/4 of an inch longer than the Sedra.

I have a G4 also with a new Sedra 9000 on it. Do you have your an elbow or anything on the outlet inside the skimmer? I have 45 on mine with it turned slightly to shoot the bubbles down in the skimmer body a little further.
