Lazy clam?

I got a clam at the frag swap on Saturday. He appears to be doing well in his new world, but the clam is laying on his side and I have noticed that his foot is not planted.

What can the issue be? It's only been a couple of days, give it time? He is not happy with where he is positioned in the tank due to too much flow, not enough light, etc?

Any feedback?

what type of clam ( I forgot already) I am guessing its a crocea, or maxima, and they prefer to be on a rock (either on the rockwork , or slip a thin rock just under the sand bed) if its a derasa, then it prefers the sand.

Tipping on the side is a natural feeding response of all clams, but if/when they are attached to a rock, the tipping is much less notable

It is a crocea.

Thanks. I'll slip a rock under it and see how that goes. What about flow? High flow, low flow?

I am interested in the subject of flow and clams as well... mine is getting quite a bit... not to the point of flapping... but certainly the mantel on one side will often gently sway. Too much?

They are pretty tolerant either way IME. You wont want them blasted with a powerhead directly on them at all times, but they can handle quite a bit..

I keep a crocea directly in the path of one of my 2" surges (40" head) and it seems toi be happy as... well, a clam

It may take a while for the clam to attach it's foot Jim.

Once it is happy it will attach.

I was able to get one of my clams to attach on a smaller piece of live rock. It has made it easier for me to move him around then.

I have been trying to get a clam to attach to a rock for a month or so. I have moved it many times and in many locations. This thing is just stubborn!

It is happy and healthy....it just does not want to attach to anything!
