Mixing Saltwater
Just curious - how long do you mix saltwater before a water change? How long can you keep the mixed saltwater? A couple days, a week, a couple weeks?

I have a 300 gallon tank and change 50 gallons at a time. I mix the 50 gallons in one big container and it takes 4-5 days before the water is completely clear. I will sometimes wait up to a month before I change the water.
As long as no contaminates get into the water and you keep it circulating it should be fine for a few months. |

I do 5 gal water changes at a time, i have a 6 gal bucket i fill it with 5 gals of water, put salt in, and shake it up (i have a top). let it sit for a few hours with a heater get up to temp, and make sure i shake it again.
It can sit up to a week.. usually doesnt last that long. =0)

I mix in a standard 10 gallon aquarium, and sometimes it is a week before I do the water change...I would definitely wait at least 24 hours minimum to make sure it is fully mixed.

I mix 20 gal at a time in a brute trash can. (without the trash) for at least 24 to 48 hours. I have stored SW in five gal con for a week with no problems. I will put an air stone in it before I use it.

I mix SW immediatly after I use the last batch. That means that it is mixed for at least one week, mostly 2. I mix it 15G at a time in rubbermaid totes.
