confirm ID please

I bought this mantis today- and I am pretty sure it is a g. ternatensis- male.

We were out of town and I drove all over looking for LFS stores that had mantis in stock. I wish I was better at ID'ing these without an internet reference in hand

It sucks that when you call and LFS they can not describe them in any way that is actually helpful. even to ask how big does not help- the one I got is approx 3 inches- and on the phone they told me it was bigger. I thought for sure this store would not have what I wanted from their description- but they had 2 to chose from. Glad that I went anyway.

the second store that I went to- said the mantis was small- but it was a good solid mantis at about 4 1/2 inches and he was very feisty. Was not able to ID him- as I did not get a good look at all his colors and I knew that it was bigger than I was looking for.

Is there any type of written ID guide that is portable enough to take LFS mantis hunting? any book/booklet? print Dr Roy's pages? laptop with wireless??

yup G. tern. red intersegmental lines along with the orange meral spots tell me G. tern. blue antennal scales tell me it's a boy. so good eye for you. IDing different mantids just takes practice (the doc's pages help a lot).
