Question Blue Claveria?

Is that the name of this? It looks really cool!

What does the base look like?
If its a tube like base that channels around, then it could be clavularia. Clavularia is a soft coral.
If its a hard, red tube structure looking like "pipe organs", then it could be tubipora. Tubipora is suprisingly also a soft coral.
If you can, fan it or wait til it closes and take a pic. We can go from there.

444reefkeeper - I think you have a better lead to this being a Clavularia. Googled both "blue clavularia" site says soft coral & "blue claveria" site says its LPS.

As 444reefkeepr mentioned, clove polyps (Clavularia sp.) and pipe organs (Tubipora musica) are both soft corals. The pipe organ is often missed labeled as LPS due to the skeleton from which the polyps extend.

We would need a better picture to confirm, but I would have to say clavularia.

It's a Clavularia sp. I have a rock that's approx. 4" square. Covers nice. Got it from Sharky's about 2 months ago. I think around $30. My camera abilities truly suck, but you can see it on the bottom, just left of the stream rock.

I have some of those. They are blue clauvaria (clove polyps). Vivid Aquariums has named them Blue Snowflakes and I've seen them referred by other common names as well. Mine are staying blue as long as I keep them out of the direct light of the halides. Those few that managed their way out into the light turn more purple in color. They grow rapidly, like green star polyps, so make sure they have another rock to spread on.

Yep. With over 40 species, can't say which one though.

I have a rock of them as well. I have no clue where they came from as I didn't purchase them, but they popped up from something!

Do they form a network of tissue over the rock? I've seen ones a few times that are dissimilar from pipe organs because they don't form tubes, they just spread over the rock kind of like Anthelia. I don't know what they were but they were probably in the Clavularia family. Very cool looking nonetheless.
