overflow foam problem
Ok I started out by having micro bubbles coming from my overflow oputlet, well now it has "broken in" like a skimmer and is foaming like the skimmer! WHAT THE HECK?
I need help please, here is all the information I can think of, ask for more if needed. 1 1/2 overflow pvc 900 gph oceanrunner producing about 700 gph to main tank. 100 gallon display, one overflow, 40 gallon sump. setup for 4 days 50 pounds live rock put in on second day 50 pounds dead sand put in on second day I have also tried lr rubble and 90's and T's at the end of the overflow outlet with no luck. Please anyone have any ideas? ~Chase

I'm not very fond of them but you could try filter sock on it. Do you have a skimmer on the system besides tohe overflow (that doesn't count) is the over flow pvc submerged in the sump or above the water level. Water can be tricky there are many things you can try. is it a straight drain are you using a durso or something similar?could even be a rough spot in the pvc at a cut that is causing turbulence (probably not enough to cause skimming like you describe though)

Durso, submerged, skimmer won't be running for another month until the tank is cycled. I put a sock on today and it "seems" to do the trick but I know about the socks, I'll be changing mine ever single time I do laundry with another one.

A durso is going to suck in air and will cause the outlet to foam quite a bit. Mine does the same thing.

I allways use a filter sock.

yep make sure you keep it clean or you an end up with a different set of issues. I would also agree that if you have the skimmer get it running on the tank.

I agree on that. Thanks. How much water compared to bleach do you normally do?

I like to soak mine in bleach water (I don't really measure, but I suppose I should). Then rinse it in a bucket of water with dechlorinator in it. Then let it dry completely before use. Probably don't need to do the middle part, but it makes me more at ease

By the way, I have rarely used my socks since my tank turned about a month old.

Yeah once my fuge is completely thickened up and established then I will try without the sock. Until then having clean clear water in a cycling tank is nice.
