I do mine mostly from the display to help get any left over debris, detritus, etc out of there. Will occasionally do it from the sump just to clean it up a little.

I would do every 3rd from the display, the rest I did from the sump as to allow a gradual introduction of the new water to the display.

I took all my tanks down, so I haven't done any changes in awhile.

I do it from the display, just because I can siphon it, and I'm too lazy to break out a pump to take it from the sump.

I turn my main pump off, drain from the display, turn that pump back on, and then pump the replacement water into my sump.

As I think you're seeing, people do it different ways for different reasons. The best "way" to do it - is whatever is easiest for you.

The most important part of changing water is to make sure the replacement water's temp is close to the same as your system.

My sump is in the basement under the tank and next to a utility sink so it is easy to do it from there.

HopefulReefer, yes we are moving back to Florida. After almost 3 yrs back in Va. we realized that warmth and being close to the ocean was high on our priority list. We had to take them down when we put the house on the market.

In Florida there is no crawl space or basement, so I'm looking forward to another build, I will be looking for a home that will accept an in wall and back up to a fish room.

Spent my first week down there this week at I must say when I flew back Friday and got off the plane, I realized why

Its cold

I alternate between my sump and fuge. I have a line T'ed off of my return pump with a ball valve and can open that to take my 10% from my sump. When I notice my fuge getting a little grungy with detritus and nuisance algae I will siphon from there ( my fuge sits above my tank ).

Last week I did mine from the display...syphoned off some detritus from the sand...

This week I did it from the sump...much easier for sure...I like the idea someone posted though about mixing changes between sump and display...I need to stock up on my CUC to help with detritus, so I am thinking of doing 2 from the sump followed by the 3rd from the display then starting back with the sump...I may try that for a while to see how it works...
