600 gph closed loop -- 1" piping or 1-1/2?
Purchasing materials to make my closed loop. On a 600gph loop would you use 1" piping or 1-1/2" piping?

I'll either be using an Eheim 1260 (1" in and 3/4" out) or a Quiet One 2200 (1" in & out). I'm leaning towards the Eheim.

How many outlets are you going to have? If more than 2, I would do like 3/4 or even 1/2" I am saying this from experience with going with too large of a pipe and getting hardly any flow.

If you are going to use the Ehiem, then I would do 1" in and 3/4" out.

Thanks. There's a pretty big difference in pressure losses between the 3/4 and 1" lines. I was concerned that 3/4" might reduce the flow rate too much...

Closed loop = zero head pressure, just the bends & pipe restriction.
I'd use 1" - if using the Eheim I'd get a 3/4 -> 1" adapter right from the pump.

dont use the Quiet One 2200 i had one on my refugium with a ball valve to cut the flow down and it was loud *** hell.

I'm going to be implementing one within the next couple of weeks, that will use a Sequence Hammerhead (5800gph w/ 1.5" I/O[/i]). I will be running 1.5" pipe all around, but I'm going to be teeing down to 3/4" for the bulkheads and then using penductors on each of them. This provides the proper restrictions to get the pressure I'll need, as well as keep me from having to use multiple pumps.
