acrylic thickness for a sump
Hey guys,
i just purchesed a new 150gallon high tank, and i am going to build a sump for it, now the sump size should be aboue 22"x22"x18". i was wondering if 1/8" acrylic would be strong enough (since i got 2 large sheets of it) or should i get a new sheets of 1/4" Thanks, |

The acrylic calculator from Cyro states the you will need .354 or larger for a tank that is 18" tall by 22" wide. You can go to their site and downlad an excell file that will tell you what the recomended thicknesses are.

i just had a thought,
a sump is built from 3 main compartments, shouldn't it be same to calculate the thichness of the acrylic to the size of the biger comparment? |

I am sure you could use 1/4 inch sheet if you have dividers giving it extra strength from bowing. I always calculate the overall size.

I pic mine up local. Shiping kills you on the product. Most solvents have to ship as a hazardous material. Just check the phonebook for a local plastics supply.
