will this be enough lighting ?

i have a 40x16x12" tank.
want to eventually have sps amoungst other things.
will 4 x 55w interpet compact T5 lamps be enough ?

If the T-5's have individual reflectors, it should be, but wait for someone more experienced to confirm.

Can you give us a link to the lights? If it has individual reflectors, it ought to be fine, but like waterpologirl said, we'd need to see it first.

they are indervidual lights. they are not a 1 piece kit. u buy a starter. and a lamp and reflectors all seperate . im making a canopy so im going to bolt them to the inside of that.

Those are not what you hear refered to as t5 lights those are compact flor. lights and will not be enough light to keep sps in my opinion. They are refered in that ad as t5 only because each of the tubes is the same size as a HO t5 tube.
