Hydor Koralia??
I have a 55 gallon tank that will be FOWLR (volitan and barred moray) after it has finished its cycle. Right now I have 60lbs of live sand, 5lbs of live rock and 30lbs of base rock. Should I add a Koralia circulation pump to my tank? I know they are mainly used for corals and im not planning on having corals in my tank at this point but I also heard that they were good with keeping algae blooms down. I also like how the light reflects off the sand when tanks have a lot of circulation, just like in the ocean. Would it be worthwhile to get one? If so how many gallons per hour? They have 4 different sizes ranging from 400-1200.

ive tried the koralia 1 in a 22 gallon and the flow was barely noticeable.so in a 55 i would use the koralia 3 at least.

cutegecko3, i completely agree, my LFS suggested the koralia 1 for my 54 gallon, and even said it might be too much flow!! The water flow it puts out is very nice, but it's not nearly enough. I am going to move the koralia 1 to my 24 gallon aquapod, and I just ordered a koralia 3 today. I think my current algea problem has a lot to do with the lack of water flow...
Also, as a side note, I've noticed people here on reef central paying a lot for these, practically full price for used ones, and I just don't get it. You can get a brand new Korralia 3 on ebay for like $45 with shipping, so why pay someone $40+ for a used one? I guess 5 bucks is 5 bucks, but I just like having new stuff and not taking any chances! Plus, the new one I ordered today I ended up getting for $40 because I just asked the guy if he'd make me a deal...that's just me though, I love bargains!! |

I have a K2 and K3 in my 90. There is a HUGE difference between the two. In a 55 FOWLR gallon the K3 would probably be the only additional circulation you need.
spider2928, the lighting effect you want is related more to the type of lighting you will use than the amount of flow you have. Point sources of light like MH will give that effect, flourescent light won't much at all, regardless of how much circulation you have. |

I'm getting 4 K4's for my 210 gallon tank... so I would imagine a Koralia 3 would be perfect for your tank

either a koralia 4 or koralia 3 would be good for your tank. You want to make sure you have waterflow through your whole tank. Thats what makes the koralias good because they have a large diameter of waterflow

Thanks guys, I've decided on going with a koralia 4 because i see myself upgrading to a 125 gallon tank in the near future.

I am using a 4 in my 55 and a 1. I am also using a mag (12 I think?) and I have lots of movement. But I am happy with this arrangement but I think I may upgrade again at some other point.
