It's not the remora.. I have one and I'm switching to an Octopus 100F.. not sure how well that will do yet, but sounds like it'll be better than what I've got

I hope your not buyin a hob for your 125g. A big tank like that needs a insump skimmer. Get a Hob overflow and a sump and a insump skimmer.

I've used both the Remora Pro w/ a mag3 and the BakPak2r w/ a Rio 800 for smaller tanks w/o a sump (40 to 75 gallons). I thought both were excellent for those purposes. I would not recommend either for any larger size tank/system.

I use a deltec mce600 hob skimmer for my 75 aga w 40 aga sump/fuge. It's rated for 180 gal normal stocking and 120 heavy stocking. It can be used in or out of sump. I use it in sump and it skims great.

Deltec mce600 is the best HOB skimmer on the market right now.

This is a questionable comment. Many people don't have luck with them at all. Also your forgetting about teh other two skimmers out there that are hanging or outdoing this one as far as air goes. The rogue which is somewhat unproven and the turbofloater blue 3000, which is pulling 30scfh. The turbo is at the same rediculous price of 520bux like the deltec but the rogue is at 250. They are the only three that may be able to handle a 125g. I'd suggest a sump as well, you can get a better skimmer than these for around 200 in sump.

luke give us a break the deltec overflows when installed impropperly. thats it.

The deltec 600 is the only proven HOB that actually skims.

the Rouge is still a yellow water skimmer...

For a sumpless 125 though i would have to say tunze is the only way to go

GSM, there are quite a few complaints about the deltec out there about it not skimming and overflowing. Not saying some of it is user error, but there are some experienced guys out there that HATE the deltec hot skimmer. The tunze would be a good fit as well. But i would still say get a sump.

I think its the new turbofloater since its blue. GSM, i've seen the mce300 & 600 and i haven't seen them overflow or have probs. Just what a few guys have posted on here that i respect there opinions. I didn't say it wouldn't work for this tank ; )

its not the turbofloater there is a giant oceanrunner NW pump in the tank with turbofloater that is different with the pump inside the skimmer. look again

and there is a label on it but i cant make it out.

I personally don't think any hot would work for a tank that big either.

Yea, just a guess cuz it was blue, but it doesn't look like the turbo......hard tellin what it is! But it looks pretty decent and the pump looks to be a internal NW i'd guess.

It's made by a Taiwanese manufacturer, uses a sedra 5000 NW pump(!), I have seem this in person and it's the best HOT i've seem without a doubt. ( I have used Remora, Tunze 9010 and i have seem MCE600, which is decent if not for the micro bubbles)

Only problem is that it's HUGE for a HOT. It has a smaller cousin with a Sedra 2500, the performance is on par with the Tunze 9010.

pump with NW

skim mate after 1st day of usage.

Aquamedic Blue 3000

ZC Cylon

http://archiv.korallenriff.de/07_abschauemer.html

They have a model powered by an Aquabee 2000/1 for 500lph, and one powered by the Sicce PSK 2500 for 1000lph of air.

A 40g you could put many different hot skimmers on there. Any of the above would be plenty or you could try a turbofloater multi, octo hot.

I guess I should have said "IMO" Deltec MCE600 is the best .

Seriously though, I have never had one overflow EVER. I really don't think it can unless its not setup properly.

but yea, for a 125g tank, a in sump skimmer would be best.

Unless you go for broke and run 2 MCE600's like I was about to. on my 100gal, but decided to downgrade to a 37cube.
