Bta's

I am a little perplexed about my GBTA I haven't seen(full view) it for about three weeks because it was behind the rocks.
I saw my new clown take a piece of shrimp and take it towards the GBTA to feed it. The tenticles were plump and full, the last two days I couldn't see any of it's tenticles so I turned the rock around.

It looks horrible, wide gaping mouth and shrunken tenticles...and it's base is really stretched as though it's trying to pull itself apart.

Before adding the clowns it was really doing well, so well I thought it was going to split.

But now it looks like this...Sorry but it's the best I can get tonite.

I have never seen it look like this...my RBTA still looks good and eats well.

If it is splitting....should it look like it does?

At least 2 days now, the mouth is open all the way through to the back. In other words it looks like a doughnut.

I would say it sure looks like it is splitting but also looks like it's dying.

I had never seen one split before mine did a couple of weeks ago and I thought the same thing. thought it was melting away.

Ok then, Maybe I should finish

If it stays in one place I can take pics of the splitting(or dying) process.

My RBTA's never look bad before a split, they just stretch out a little narrower prior to splitting.

bizzaro. I thought mine was a goner for a couple of days. it looked just like other anemones i've seen die. one day it then went under a rock and when I went searching for it there were two.

I'd say splitting... it it was dying... that porcelain crab would have jumped ship, and yout tank would be milky as it would loose it's "co-hesion" and melt and self destruct....

Thanks guys,

Hey jmkarcz, my clown is still hosting it as well; I had to wait for feeding time to get the clown away for the pic.

So far it seems to want to stay were it is so I will take pics in the morning before work and right away after work.

siropa, I sure hope it comes through this split ok It looks like...well...disgusting

muelpaul,
From your first description I thought it was way worse than in the second picture you posted.
I second everyone else in its splitting, although it seems like it is taking a while to do so. Maybe my RBTA's are just faster than a green.
Keep us posted

Thanks for the picks Jason, that shroom looked good through the whole process...not stressed at all.

Thanks to you too Fish_Freek and Limpit.

Here is day 4? update...

I would have taken a morning shot but as you can see not much progress compared to yesterdays pics.
It does look like the foot on the right side is losing it's grip, not sure if that is bad but can't be good.

The clown is very protective of it's host and only strays when being fed from the other side of the tank.

well it sure is taking its time if it's splitting. but my experience with anemones dying has shown when they go, they go fast. its usually a nice drippy, gooey mess pretty fast.

Day 9? of GBTA splitting?

Picture taken a few minutes later...

If this BTA is going to split, I wish it would hurry up

This is getting to be monotonous Some days it looks like it's just about to split and then other days, not-so-much!

After being pm'ed on the current condition of my GBTA, I thought it would be a good time to update.

I believe it has finally died, It was doing so good before I got the 2 maroon clowns. It went under the rocks and now I can no longer find it. It was getting smaller and smaller every week.

So I did a search about bta's. Wouldn't you know I found a similar BTA story here.
http://www.melevsreef.com/pics/0404/rbta.html

My maroon clowns did just what melevs maroons did to his BTA.

I still have a small RBTA left and my maroons so far have left it alone.

Well I did think it had died, but to my surprise it was still alive and almost separated but still connected by just a thread.

I was moving rocks to get at my RBTA that went for a ride on a snail shell and was hidden under another section of rock.

It still looks to be in bad shape though, hopefully it will perk up soon.
