The Tetra products seem to be fine. If you try it, let us know how it goes.

useing this 94-97% product instead of Dow Flake 77% in Randy's recipe, would I need to change the amount used to make the resulting solution "equal" to the alkalinity supplement?

Yes, about 20% less would be appropriate.

just a note, that bag says it is made in china . I'm pretty sure tetras flake product is produced domestically using hydrochloric acid and limestone. You may want to call and find out what method the plant in china uses.

thats why I snapped a pic of that part...

I have eliminated it being the Briners Grade as it states:

"Briners grade calcium chloride is packaged in 50 lb.
(22.7 kg) plastic bags at TETRA’s ISO 9002
registered plant in Westlake (Lake Charles),
Louisiana"

I have eliminated it being the FCC Dry Food Grade as it is "available in 110 lb heavy wall fiber drums"

I have eliminated it being the Tetra Flake because:

"TETRA Flake calcium chloride (CaCl2) is a white, flaked, dihydrate product with 77 percent by weight calcium chloride.

I have eliminated it being the Watershield product as:

"WaterShield™ calcium chloride is a white, high
purity, anhydrous granule with 90 to 94 percent
CaCl2"

that leaves us with the Tetra 94 (see product data sheet link above)

or the Tetra Express (see the product data sheet above)

now looking at the data sheets it tells me that the Heavy Metals in both items are below 20mg/kg

Is that what we should be concerned with?...Is that the catagory Bromides would fall under?

talked to some customer service reps and they acknowledged the Tetra I have is the Tetra 94. This is a spec sheet that they sent to me...they also gave me a number to a chemist...I called him and he requested to know the amounts of Bromide that is within our limits for a reef tank supplement. Can anyone give me an amout to tell him...I know no amount of bromides are preffered...but is there a "limit" as to how much we can tolerate?

This thread has a lot of gory details:

http://archive.reefcentral.com/forum...hlight=bromide

If it's under 100 ppm, that'd be fine. There might be a higher limit in the thread.

Just got off the phone with Suren Mishra of Tetra (one of the main chemists there), he stated that all of the Tetra products contain "less than 50 ppm of bromides"
he said some were below that level some being 30 or less ppm.
