anyone use a uv sterilizer

I wanted to know if a uv sterilizer is worth the money. I was looking for something to help with alge controll.

In my extensive experience a UV sterilizer will do nothing to help with algae control. It may kill algae spores that pass through the UV but it will not control algae on your liverock, sand, etc. Your better off using an ozone generator.

What type of algae is it ? If it's hair algae a good clean up crew will help. Also, a tang will help keep algae at bay.

The alge I have is a green algae that grows on the glass. I wipe it off and it is back in a few hours. I only feed about a small amount to the fish and feed the corals 2 times per week. I am looking for a way to controll this. I have tried phosban in a reactor but it did not seem to help.

get a protein skimmer, it will help alot. UV is great for fish disease prevention/controll.

I agree with marcothschild a protein skimmer will help greatly with that type algae. I would change out my media in the Phosban and try that also. Trust me been there done that, including the UV. I had healthy fish, lol.But you should have that anyways with good water husbandry.
