aggresive tank and snails

I have a FO tank with a Koran angel, dogfaced puffer, two damsels which i cant get out, and a lawnmower blenny.

The problem is my lfs said that i CANNOT get a clean up crew because of the fish that i have. i have a 250w metal halide on the tank so without a clean up crew the hair algae goes crazy. my blenny wont eat it either by the way.

I have on hermit crab right now that has not been eaten.

can i get any sort zebra or anything that will eat the algae and waste of the other fish withoput my other fish eating them?

I have a 45 gallon tank w/ 10 gallon sump. if that makes a difference.

i won't go off in a tangent about french and dogface in a 45gal.....

I think that if you put snails in there, you MIGHT get away with it for a short while, but the puffer will soon cop on and eat them.

In any case, I think you'll find the snails will do little or nothing for the hair algae........ so it may be a wasted venture.......

Hair algae....... well there's loads of theories about it, but basically if you get little particles of food etc going to waste, your gonna get hair algae..... cleaner, better feed methods might help.

HTH

The puffer and angel are both going to outgrow your tank, so why not trade in the puffer now and get a proper clean-up crew? Just a suggestion.

urchins such as the long spine do a great job on hair algae and if you have a smaller puffer it'll probably leave it alone because the puffer won't want to lose an eye or the extra large turbos hide in the rocks all day then do their thing at night you might want to try that. Also have you tried using RO water maybe a uv light? that way you can just kill the algae's food source. You can even run a skimmer or refugium to help you algae problem
