Are they one of those fish that you can only keep one per tank or could I get a trio of them?

dont buy sand sifting star fish, they eat everything in your live sand bed very quickly

one goby per tank. If you get one large enough you shouldn't have a problem with it cleaning up the stuff in the sand.

Do a google search for Shimeks DSB article .. as I recall he would advise against your suggested purchase as your "sand shifter" is going to eat the organisms that help sustain your DSB.

Diamond goby---if 180 g. Yellow watchman is also fairly good at it, but not so dedicated. Gobies will get along with each other EXCEPT another of their exact kind. They can have some serious fights with a rival for territory...but if you can get two that are pal-ing around together, you might have a pair. One diamond goby per 100g, however, because unlike the watchman, they'll starve if the sand runs out of nutrient.

Make sure you cover your tank (if not) as the goby loves to carpet surf.
