What color are the meral spots? Where did it come from? Better pictures would really help. If I had to QUESS right now, I would say N wennerae. But that would be a shot in the dark.

Hmm, origin of your LR could determine your mantis id. What color are the meral spots? Take a look at Dr. Roy's list. I'm starting to lean towards one of the Gonodactylus's

I'm sorry, but I can't see any spots.

OK, lets try this. Go Dr. Roy's page and look at the Species Directory. Click on the Gonodactylus smithii. In the first picture you can see the meral spots, they are a dark color with a white ring around them. Meral spots are on the same place on all mantis's. Now look at your mantis from head on and find the meral spot. I'll bet they are white. Look through the species directory and I'll bet you find you mantis.

I've got it. They are white, and there is some dark red color on both sides.

Great. Did you look at all the Gonodactylus species? Especially G. chiragra. Also check out the Neogonodactylus wennarae.

Yes, all of them several times. I think it's really difficult... N. wennerae seems to have more colors, but I guess that depends on a lot of things..

Try to get a close, head on picture. That will help.

I think I need a better camera..
I'll try getting some more pics tomorrow. I've got a Cannon Ixus 900 Ti. It's har getting nice close-ups.. He's a bit shy i think. But he's only been with me for 4 days, so I don't blame him. Thanks for all help so far! I really appreciate. |

Yes. But not like a pattern. There is some color on two sides of the meral spots, it's not a circle.

When he shows you his meral spots, are they a little off white with red streaks around the outside border?

It's hard to see cause he hardly show them at all. I think it looks like it though..

Yes, I think so too! It's good to know big it gets etc.. He's about full grown then.

The red on the Viridis meral spot is sometimes mottled or just visible. Looks like a Viridis to me. The carapace color can vary greatly ,some with bold patterns some very plain. Many times you can see a uniform pattern of white spots down the back of females .
